Shed Brewery Setup

I've gone for simple but effective in my brew shed. I bought most of the equipment online as a part of this "all grain  starter kit", which was surprisingly complete! It also included a "mash kit" which is basically just a bag of pre-mixed grains to sling in your tun to get you going, no content list or OG/FG expectations.

Anyway, the setup is a tower system, utilising two Electrim boilers, a cool-box conversion mash tun and a fermenting vessel with tap - all tiered together as below:

Or in real life:

I've got two lengths of garden hose, one used for filling the HLT and as an inflow to the chiller, and one to act as an outflow - both connected by standard hose fittings for easy switching and removal.

HLT: Thorn (Peco) Electrim Boiler

Mash Tun: Cool-box conversion mash tun

Boiler: Another Thorn (Peco) Electrim Boiler

FV: 25 ltr Fermenting Bin with TAP & lid Graduated markings

For the shelving I just bought a heavy dutymetal framed shelf unit from Argos. The shelves themselves were MDF which would have lasted 5 minutes with the weight of the boilers and the heat and moisture would have disintegrated them, so I sawed up an old wardrobe and replaced the MDF shelves with solid wood, and screwed them in place.

Next step will be to replace the foil in the mash tun sparge method with some sort of sprinkler from the HLT. A watering can rose has already been appropriated for this, so just a case of attaching it :)

I did look into using a pump to run the first runnings round back into the mash tun but I think it would have been problematic and probably not have saved that much time and effort for the work involved.

This is a work in progress, and will hopefully evolve with experience ;)
